Some time ago I created a post about commercial iPhone game engines. I made a brief mention of GameSalad, and at the time the engine was in beta, had just added iPhone support, and still had a long ways to go. I’ve received a few messages since then from GameSalad fans who don’ t feel the engine gets as much exposure as it deserves. For those that don’t know GameSalad is a drag-and-drop 2D game creator. Since then the engine has improved considerably providing greater speed, and allowing for publishing not only on the web and iPhone, but also native Mac games.
Recently GameSalad has held a Macworld game creation contest and the finalists provide a good idea of the types of games that can be created with GameSalad. You can check out the games at the GameSalad Macworld Contest page.
If you’re interested in playing around with GameSalad and maybe creating some quick drag-and-drop games you can check it out here. The versions of GameSalad that compile to the iPhone start at $99.
