Last week I mentioned the new crossplatform C++ 3D game engine GamePlay.

Today I came across an interesting project that just had it’s first public release known as OpenAphid.

OpenAphid is a framework created to allow developers to develop 2D games using Javascript with similar performance to native apps (and in their testing performs better than other Javascript based iOS game development solutions).  Think of it as Phonegap for games.

OpenAphid is styled after Cocos2D so if you’ve worked with Cocos2D everything should look familiar.

You can read more about the release of OpenAphid on their blog.

You can download the OpenAphid runtime here, find examples here, and a boilerplate project here for your own apps.

I only had a limited chance to play around with the examples, but it looks like a great start.
