Open Source: Library Providing An Easier Annotated, Interactive MKMapView Implementation

I’ve post about the iOS Map Kit several times and mentioned an excellent beginners Map Kit tutorial and an interesting library that turns an MKMapView into an augmented reality map.

Today I came across a library that enables easier creation and handling of an MKMapView.  The library provides an easy syntax for creating map annotations, customizable pin dropping, and more.

This image from the Github page shows an example of an annotated map created using the library.

While the library does not offer everything you may not need to do with a map view it is great if you want to quickly add in a  annotated map.

The library is VPPMap from Victor Pena, and can be found on Github here with instructions on how to further extend the library if you need more MKMapView functionality and a sample project.

You can find the documentation here.

Very handy if you want to drop-in a basic annotated map quickly into an app.  If you’re looking to make some really fancy customized annotations you may want to check out another map kit library that was previously mentioned.
