I’ve mentioned Ogre3D for the iPhone in the past, and chances are if you’ve attempted indie game programming in the last few (10+) years then you’ve likely taken a look at the Ogre3D graphics engine.
I’ve received feedback from the past from developers trying to build Ogre3D for the iPhone, and I recently came across an excellent step-by-step guide on getting Ogre3D running on iOS, and I can confirm for those that have had issues with this – this guide actually works.
In addition to the Ogre3D files you will also need to download and install CMake, and the tutorial will guide you through everything – even how to build a working Ogre3D Xcode 4 template.
You can find the tutorial here:
Ogre 3D SDK 1.7.3 for iPhone Tutorial
Note this is for latest release version 1.7.3.
You may also want to take a look at GameKit if you are interested in using Ogre3D. GameKit is an attempt to get Ogre3D or irrLicht running on multiple platforms along with audio, physics, and lua scripting. It looked like this project was dead for awhile, but activity has picked up and you can find the Google code page here.
You’ll want to take a look at AppOgreKit if you give this a try – the GameKit project seems to be a favorite of blender fans and thus has many followers – just haven’t seen any iOS apps as of yet.
You can find the Ogre3D homepage here.
