The Best Resources In iOS Development – January 31st 2011

Welcome to another post signalling some of the best resources in iOS development that have been shared on this site in the last week. Thanks to those who e-mailed me concerning the slowdown issues, and broken pages on the site — it looks like those issues have finally been eliminated, and everything working fully on the new server.

Some great resources have been shared in the last week, and if you have a resource that you’d like to share please post it on the iPhone development forum (no login required) which will greatly increase it’s chances of being posted on the main blog.

Open Source iOS Speech Recognition And Text To Speech Library – An excellent open source  text to speech, and speech to text library based on Mobile Sphinx from Carnegie Mellon University.

Tutorial: Cocos2D Angry Birds Like Physics Game Example – A great tutorial utilizing Cocos2D and Chipmunk to create gameplay similar to the popular Angry Birds game.

Open Source: NSAttributedString HTML Additions For iOS – A great open source library allowing for much the same functionality provided by the NSAttributedString HTML libraries for Mac allowing for rich text using the html syntax without having to use a UIWebView.

Cocos2D And GameKit Multiplayer Gameplay Example – A great example demonstrating how to had multiplayer gameplay using GameKit to a Cocos2D game.

Open Source And Commercial iOS Game Engine Listings Updated – A note about some various updates that have been done to the game engine listings featured on this site.

Tutorial: Finding Memory Leaks With The Allocations Instrument And Heapshot Analysis – An excellent step-by-step example on how to find memory leaks with the allocations instrument and heapshot analysis when you need to go beyond the static analyzer.

Tutorial: Building An RSS Reader – An excellent tutorial on building an RSS reader in Objective-C with features such as background downloading and real time animated updates.

Glyph Designer Font Creation Tool Released With Cocos2D Support – News about a font creation tool being released that features exporting of fonts that can be directly used within Cocos2D.

    just saved the poster hours/days of grief and with people like bbum and others providing the expert answers they do, it’s a goldmine.

  4. Good find, thanks. I definitely need to come up with something to search for new/good answers better on stack overflow.

    It’s a great resource.. unfortunately like all answer sites you see the wrong answer get the check mark occasionally.
