How To Push Out Notifications Locally Based On Time

There are times when you want to notify the user that an important event has occurred or will occur.

Push notifications are a great way to notify the user that an event has occurred and became a staple feature immediately after they were added into the iOS sdk.

Now local notifications are available that allow you to push a notification to the device that your app is running on based on time, the notifications can even be recurring.

I'm new to iPhone programming. So far I've only written a couple of simple apps just to get the hang of it. In a short time I will have an assignment to write an app that will let iPhone users communicate directly using short messages, and probably they will add a requirement to be able to send files to each other attached to the messages. Of course this sound a lot like a mail client. It would be too long to try to explain why, but the client does not want to use mail, and attaching files would leave SMS out. I've been reading Apple's documentation on local, push and broadcast notifications. Would any of these be the way to go?

If you need to send notification that the file has been sent that would be the way to do it. You could pop up a message saying something like “new file received” and then when they entered the app they could download the file.

You could “team up” your messaging program with a service like Filesdirect – http://www.filesdirect.com – for the file send. I hear they're actively looking to partner with app developers…
