A question that I see commonly asked is if there are any open source iPhone apps for programmers to learn from. Well the answer to that is many, unfortunately many are low quality or designed for jailbroken iPhones so if you’re developing for Apple’s App Store they won’t help too much.
So here I’ve listed 11 different iPhone apps that are of very high quality, and exist in the iPhone’s app store.
Here they are listed in alphabetical order:
1. Colloquy – An IRC client.
2. Freshbooks – Freshbooks time tracker client.
3. Gorillas – Classic Worms/iShoot type game converted to iPhone.
4. HP-Calc – Calculator app based on classic HP-Calculators
5. Molecules – 3D Molecule Viewer
6. Natsulion – A basic twitter client converted from mac.
7. Packlog – backpack journal client
8. Tubestatus – London train schedule tracker.
9. Twitterfon – A basic twitter client.
10. Wikihow – A reader app for the popular how to wiki site.
11. Wordpress – Client for posting to Wordpress.Com blogs
Check them out if you’re working on something similar or think they might have a feature you could use there’s no reason to re-invent the wheel. Be sure to make sure you understand the licenses though many are GPL and require that you open source your app.
Here’s a quick video about the three that I have found most useful in my own development:
Please post about any great open source apps in the app store that I haven’t listed here.
Thanks

Thank you!
Mobilesynth by Allen Porter is open source on Google Code . Not for the faint hearted though as it uses core audio and C++
